*Consoles: All consoles until the 6th generation, plus the [[Wii]] ([[Dolphin]]) and Wii U ([[Cemu]]) with an older version of Cemu (1.13.2) work (the latest version of Cemu can work with Mesa3D for Windows ([https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VqcEgFFivu0 video tutorial is for yuzu and Ryujinx, but it should work for Cemu too (only follow if you have a PC which does not support the required OpenGL version of what emulator(s) you want to use)]), albeit at not the best speeds). Even [[Nintendo Switch]] ([[yuzu]] and [[Ryujinx]]) can work with [https://fdossena.com/?p=mesa/index.frag Mesa3D for Windows], at least for homebrew applications, since I have not tried any retail Switch games yet on either emulator, though I would not be surprised if those possibly do not boot, or if they do, run at super slow speeds (used already mentioned video tutorial for both emulators).

How does my laptop handle emulation?[edit]

An emulation beast, which supports OpenGL 4.6 and earlier, Vulkan, and DirectX 12 and earlier, giving it the ability to use most, if not all currently available emulators.

Laptop information[edit]

  • Name: HP 255 G7 (AMD Ryzen 5 3500U model)
  • Release year: 2019

Specs[edit]

  • OS: Windows 11
  • CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 3500U
  • GPU: AMD Radeon Vega 8
  • Storage: 128GB SSD
  • RAM: 8GB (weirdly single-channel instead of dual-channel)

How does my PC handle emulation?[edit]

An emulation beast, that is if you're not planning to run anything too demanding or anything that requires OpenGL 4.4 or later or Vulkan, or most stuff that requires DirectX 12, at least in Windows, while it gains more power in Linux…

PC information[edit]

  • Name: Lenovo ThinkCentre E73 (Mini Tower)
  • Release year: 2013, 2014 (i5-4460S version, the one that I have)

Specs[edit]

  • OS: Windows 10
  • CPU: Intel Core i5-4460S
  • GPU: Intel HD Graphics 4600
  • Storage: 500GB HDD
  • RAM: 8GB

How does my phone handle emulation?[edit]

A portable device that is a not-so emulation and gaming beast, which will happily play many native Android games, mostly un-demanding ones, plus will happily emulate anything prior to the PlayStation 2 on the home console side and the Nintendo 3DS on the handheld side, and even run some lighter Windows stuff.

Phone information[edit]

  • Name: Samsung Galaxy A12
  • Release year: 2020

Specs[edit]

  • OS: Open UI Core 4.1 (Android 12)
  • CPU: MediaTek Helio P35
  • GPU: PowerVR GE8320
  • Storage: 64GB
  • RAM: 4GB

Emulation limits[edit]

  • Consoles: All consoles until possibly the Dreamcast (Flycast and redream) work at playable speeds. PlayStation 2 (AetherSX2 (patched with NetherSX2)), Nintendo GameCube, and Wii (Dolphin) do work, but with not the best performance, with Vulkan working the best for Dolphin, aibelt with more graphical glitches than OpenGL, which runs slower than Vulkan.
  • Handhelds: All handhelds until the Nintendo DS (DraStic) and PlayStation Portable (PPSSPP) work at playable speeds. Nintendo 3DS (Citra, both the PabloMK7 fork and Citra MMJ) does work, but with not the best performance, with the PabloMK7 fork working better for some games with the Vulkan renderer, while Citra MMJ works better for some games. The Panda3DS (Nintendo 3DS) emulator (which I later deleted), PlayStation Vita (Vita3K), and Nintendo Switch (yuzu and Skyline, both which I later deleted) don't even boot games at all.
  • Mobile: Have not tried iOS (touchHLE) yet on my phone. VMOS Pro works for using older apps not supported on Android 12 such as ones that were last supported on Android 4.4.
  • Other: Windows (Winlator, Mobox via Termux, and ExaGear SU) also work, though not all games and apps will work, since PowerVR GPUs only support VirGL (support for older OpenGL versions and DirectX until DirectX 9). The mGBA core in the Windows version of RetroArch actually worked better than I expected, running decently in Winlator, with the Gambatte core running buttery smooth in Mobox, with fast-forward surprisingly also working. Even the Windows versions of DeSmuME and melonDS work, which is surprising since both do not work that great on my phone natively, but are as slow as a slideshow, being even worse than the native versions on my phone. I have not managed to test most of the more complex emulators. The Windows version of PPSSPP surprisingly works, but it is as slow as a snail. Cemu boots to the game select menu, but I have not managed to get a single game working on there yet, since my phone will most likely be never be able to run Wii U games, especially if it struggles with even melonDS. The Windows version of Citra also goes into the game selection menu, but crashes upon booting a game.

How does my older laptop handle emulation?[edit]

A not-so-portable emulation beast, currently with bad battery life, which also LOVES to get hot, that will run almost every available emulator, with various degrees of success…

PC information[edit]

  • Name: Samsung RV520
  • Release year: 2012

Specs[edit]

  • OS: Lubuntu 22.4
  • CPU: Intel Core i3-2330M
  • GPU: Intel HD Graphics 3000
  • Storage: 750GB HDD
  • RAM: 12GB

Emulation limits[edit]

  • Consoles: All consoles until the PlayStation 2 and Nintendo GameCube, plus the Wii (Dolphin). I have not tried Cxbx-Reloaded (for Xbox via Wine) yet. xemu, Wii U (Cemu) and Nintendo Switch (yuzu and Ryujinx) do work with overriding the OpenGL version to their respective required versions (4.0, 4.5, 4.6, and 4.5), with me using Steam to launch those emulators with the GL overrides. Those emulators may also work with the software (llvmpipe) Vulkan renderer, but are as slow as a slideshow, with Cemu and yuzu crashing if those try to render 3D with the software Vulkan renderer. Have not 100% tried PlayStation 3 (RPCS3) yet, but Xbox 360 (Xenia Canary via Wine/Proton) does not work (tested with the Xbox Live Arcade port of Banjo-Kazooie, being stuck on the Xbox Live Arcade screen, with some sound playing, until it surprise, surprise, crashes).
  • Handhelds: All handhelds until the Nintendo DSi (both via melonDS and NO$GBA (Wine)) and PlayStation Portable (PPSSPP) work at playable speeds. Nintendo 3DS (Citra (RetroArch core) does work, but at slow speeds for 3D games, while the standalone version of Citra only works with overriding its OpenGL version to the required OpenGL version (4.3), with me using Steam to launch the standalone Citra with the GL overrides. Citra may also work with the software (llvmpipe) Vulkan renderer, but are as slow as a slideshow, with PlayStation Vita (Vita3K) refusing to boot even 2D games, unless if the slow software (llvmpipe) OpenGL renderer is being used.
  • Mobile: Android (Genymotion) works, but I have yet to test iOS (touchHLE) on my laptop.
  • Other: VirtualBox works with Windows XP working as smooth as butter though 3D acceleration is not supported for Windows XP on the version of VirtualBox that I use on this laptop. Windows 10 does work, but does not run as good as Windows XP, possibly being slow to the point where it nearly becomes unusable. Those two are the only OSes that I tried on VirtualBox on this laptop so far.

Game Console Compatibility Emulator Notes
Mario is Missing! NES Perfect Nestopia (RetroArch) Of course it's going to run flawlessly. It's a NES game. What do you expect? It to run at 10fps?!

How does my iPad handle emulation?[edit]

Phone information[edit]

  • Name: iPad (9th generation)
  • Release year: 2020

Specs[edit]

  • OS: iOS 17
  • CPU: Apple A13 Bionic
  • GPU: Apple A13 Bionic GPU
  • Storage: 64GB
  • RAM: 3GB

Emulation limits[edit]

  • Consoles: All consoles currently able to be emulated on iOS via the App Store (basically all consoles until the Nintendo 64) run very good. My iPad might be able to run Nintendo 3DS games via Folium, Limon, and/or emuThreeDS with JIT support.
  • Mobile: All handhelds currently able to be emulated on iOS via the App Store (basically all consoles until the PlayStation Portable) run very good. My iPad might be able to run Nintendo GameCube and Wii games via DolphiniOS with JIT support.
  • Other: Windows 98 works very good inside DOSBox Pure in RetroArch. Games, however, might run not so good in Windows 98, most likely due to the lack of JIT. My iPad could possibly run some lighter operating systems in UTM SE, and even more in full UTM with JIT.
