Windows on ARM is the nickname for Microsoft's current support for the ARM architecture, in Windows 10 & 11.
Microsoft previously has had limited support ARM, the previous operating systems being Windows CE, and Windows RT. Windows CE only supporting PDAs and Windows RT being locked-down, only running Microsoft approved applications, unless jail-broken.
- Before diving in
- Due to ARM support being new many emulators do not provide builds, but are build-able on ARM devices.
- Windows 10 & 11 support emulation of x86 and x86_64 CPUs to run x86 or x86_64 applications on ARM, so using emulators made for x86 Windows may work. Note that the x86 emulation may produce bugs, especially when emulating more recent systems.
