- While I think MyRetroTVs is a cool project. I'm not sure what the connection to emulation is? Is there any software to use it as frontend for an emulator? Phredreeke (talk) 21:28, 13 June 2024 (UTC)
- + I've actually had the idea for a page like this in mind for a while now. I just wasn't sure what kind of information to focus on, keeping it broader than just the MyRetroTV website, simulating a retro TV experience. The reason I created this page is similar to how the wiki already has pages like Homebrew and hack Roms and Game engine recreations and source ports. My intention is to provide information on Broadcast and Digital Terrestrial Television systems, particularly how they might be relevant to emulators, especially game room simulations and potentially tools that utilize APIs or .m3u playlists for various projects in future development efforts. That's why I've categorized it under Category:Preservation and Category:Not really emulators. I know this page might be a bit of an outlier to emugen wiki and i'm still not sure creating this page is the right decision but I'm open to suggestions, please feel free to edit and contribute the page if you have any suggestions for improvement brother. - + I added some details on analog television standards, I feel that it was appropriate given the page's title. Phredreeke (talk) 22:40, 13 June 2024 (UTC)
How much detail?[edit]
- Should there be a section explaining the different transmission bands (long wave, medium wave, shortwave, VHF) and modulation types for terrestrial radio?
- + I'm not sure, and I may never be about the ideal focus for this page :P. Since the Emugen wiki centers on emulation, I believe we shouldn't prioritize detailed information about broadcasting systems. But I think it's reasonable that focusing on the core elements you mentioned alongside preservation efforts including TV simulators and broadcast recordings/captures collections (aligns well with the goals of the Emugen wiki). - + Yeah. I wanted an explanation of NTSC, PAL and SECAM on the wiki, but I didn't want to get into too much detail on the Resolution page. I felt this was a good place for it. I really wasn't sure about radio since it doesn't have the same connection to video games as the TV standards do.
How vintage programs were preserved[edit]
Just something that popped in my head. What about a section describing means by which past TV programs were preserved, both professionally (videotape and telerecordings) and at home (VHS, home 8mm film recordings, audio tape recordings)? Any thoughts/objections? Phredreeke (talk) 23:07, 10 July 2024 (UTC)
- +Brilliant idea brother. The section or page layout you have in mind - will it be similar to the Preservation projects#Revival Projects section? Is there already a web page or wiki documenting preservation efforts for broadcast and TV programs? Because it will definitely be a big effort.Ahayri (talk) 00:03, 11 July 2024 (UTC)
- I was thinking more along the technical side, rather than specific examples. Maybe Historical means of Television recording would be a better description? Phredreeke (talk) 14:41, 11 July 2024 (UTC)
- +Yeah, I believe focusing on the technical aspects (capturing and recording stuff like broadcasts and home video etc) would be more logical for this page. Additionally, mentioning projects like the Domesday project could be beneficial. I already added that project to the 'See Also' section, but I'm not satisfied with its placement there.Ahayri (talk) 16:31, 11 July 2024 (UTC)
- The Domesday project is very impressive indeed (and has expanded beyond preservation of laserdiscs, as forks has allowed high quality rips of VHS tapes) and arguably merits its own page Phredreeke (talk) 17:00, 11 July 2024 (UTC)
