* ScummVM does get referenced on this page because it's the main active engine recreation project (there's almost no other project like it)
* This page is not limited to the ScummVM project, while they have allowed some non-adventure games to be added like RPGs & strategy games, other projects are needed for engines they most likely won't accept.
* Engines with historical significance are highlighted in yellow.

==Multi-Genre ==
These engines were used to make games of varying genres, and benefit the most from engine recreations do to the large variety of titles made with them.

Some of these engines such as Macromedia Director and mTropolis were also used to make non-game related software.

|The LGASVM tab tracks the Likelihood of an engine getting added ScummVM. This tab is here because ScummVM is the main active engine recreation project (there's almost no other project like it)
| HyperCard
| {{gray}} None
|1987
|
|Developed by Apple, HyperCard was used to make hundreds games and software for MacOS computers from 1987 to roughly 1999. An engine recreation for modern computers would have a major impact on video game and software preservation but this would also be a huge project as well.
|-
|-
|The LGASVM tab is broken down like this
|Hypno
*High: has a high chance of getting added because it has many high profile games, as wells as, many games that don't break rules and polices of ScummVM.
| {{Blue}} [https://wiki.scummvm.org/index.php?title=Hypno Decent]
*Low: The chance of this engine getting added to ScummVM is low
|1995
*Medium: While these engines may not take top priority, there is a good chance of it getting added.
|4
*None: These engines will likely never get added ScummVM.

*N: The engine lacks notable games

|Developed by Monolith Productions. It was used to make some well-known titles like No One Lives Forever 2, Tron 2.0, and Medal of Honor: Pacific Assault. In an unexpected change in circumstances, there is a chance of it getting added to ScummVM, as Jupiter was used make two adventure games(Mysterious Journey II, Sentinel: Descendants in Time)<br> and three RPG's (Face of Mankind, Rubies of Eventide, Mistmare)

|Developed by Asymetrix. ToolBook is authoring platform that was to make video games and software, most of which are undocumented making impossible to say how many games / software were made with it. Although ToolBook has always been marketed, to varying degrees, towards the education sector, Asymetrix would later almost exclusively target the e-learning market once it became clear that they couldn't compete with platforms like Macromedia Director or even mTropolis. The final version of ToolBook was release in 2012 with support ending in 2017.

|HSP is a scripting language popular in Japan. its unlikely to get added to ScummVM because of the 35 visual novels made with it (since almost all of them have adult content) It would get added to preserve Japanese indie game history, dōjin titles and the many school projects made with HSP, that said, games made HSP are poorly documented \ archived,so a lot more research would be needed before it could be added.

Main article: Game engine recreations and source ports

This is a list of known game engines.

Before diving in

[edit | edit source]
  • ScummVM does get referenced on this page because it's the main active engine recreation project (there's almost no other project like it)
  • This page is not limited to the ScummVM project, while they have allowed some non-adventure games to be added like RPGs & strategy games, other projects are needed for engines they most likely won't accept.
  • Engines with historical significance are highlighted in yellow.

These engines were used to make games of varying genres, and benefit the most from engine recreations do to the large variety of titles made with them.
