Windows Latest release

Review[edit]

A high-quality emulator with high compatibility. Unfortunately, it's closed source and no longer updated. For this reason, other Sega Genesis emulators have surpassed it in terms of compatibility. Genesis Plus GX has 100% commercial game compatibility. However, it lacks the 32X support that Kega Fusion has, but PicoDrive and ares include 32X support.

Issues[edit]

On Windows 8.0 and later, an incompatibility issue (related to DirectDraw support in these operating systems being further deprecated) causes the emulator to drop frames, or freeze entirely in the case of Windows 10 and later, when attempting to switch to fullscreen mode. However, this can be easily fixed by right-clicking on Fusion.exe > Properties > Compatibility > check "Disable Fullscreen Optimizations."

Kega Fusion also suffers issues with 32X timing and graphical deficiencies, though does have proper volume levels unlike Gens, which has higher compatibility but has worse sound emulation. While it supports Sega CD emulation, there is notable audio sync issues. Kega is not recommended for CD emulation.

Netplay[edit]

Review
PROS
  • Support for up to 4 (5??) simultaneous people
  • Can emulate every console, handheld and peripheral released before the Sega Saturn
  • In-game chat, so you don't have to switch between windows
  • Every player can share Controller 1 at the same time so you can take turns with single player games
  • Netplay can be finely tuned to give the smoothest experience possible (with slight input lag)
CONS
  • The emulator is extremely sensitive and desyncs if you focus on another window, move the window around or minimize it
  • Chat messages appear too briefly on screen
