!Family Computer Disk System
|An Japan-exclusive peripheral using proprietary floppy disks format for implementing extra features that lacked in original Famicom console, such as saving game data (without needing battery-backed ROM), high-fidelity audio and other gameplay enhancements. The peripheral carried with its own game library, some of these were later ported to the regular NES/Famicom cartridge format with significant downgrades.

|A BIOS file (which can be found [[Emulator_Files#NES_.2F_Famicom|here]]) is required for FDS emulation. Note that there's two versions of the BIOS: the one that comes with Family Computer Disk System and another one that comes with Sharp's [[Wikipedia:Twin Famicom|Twin Famicom]]. They function identically despite showing different intro during first boot.
