General problems FAQ

Here is a simple guide for the steps one should take to try and resolve your problems.

Steps to take

edit

1. Update to the latest version

edit

Emulators can have stable builds that are weeks, months, and sometimes even years old. The "stable" version is often just a randomly picked dev (short for development) version, which is why the latest dev versions should often be preferred, as they solve emulation issues most of the time. Links to dev builds can be found on the dedicated emulator pages like PCSX2, Dolphin, melonDS and PPSSPP or on the individual dedicated system pages such as PlayStation 2 emulators page.

2. Change settings

edit

If you're using a plugin-based emulator, graphical glitches and sound issues could be solved by changing the settings or using a different, better plugin altogether. Newer, more accurate emulators that do not use a plugin system may also be recommended.

4. Check for known issues

edit

There are resources available for emulators which list the commonly known issues with games and their solutions. See each Wiki Category Consoles, Computers and Arcade for individual dedicated system pages to see provided up-to-date listings and in-depth information on specific aspects like hardware features, peripheral support, compatibility and also enhancements features etc.

5. Check the archives

edit

Sometimes, questions may have been asked and answered multiple times in the past. Check the Emulation General archives.

6. Read the wiki

edit

The rest of the wiki probably have the information you need.

7. Ask Emulation General

edit

If you still can't find a solution, ask Emulation General. Provide relevant details such as:

  • System specs, including CPU and GPU
  • Operating system
  • Emulator and version
  • Emulator settings/plugins
  • System and game emulated
  • The problem itself. Do not forget that. If you do, then what comes out might make no sense whatsoever.

Questions and comments about the wiki should be asked on the message board.
