Emulation
Emulation of Nintendo Network is possible with revived private server projects, an open-source project that aims to recreate Nintendo Network for the 3DS and Wii U using clean-room reverse engineering.
- For Wii U: Cemu 2.0 officially supports revived private server projects under your network account options in the emulator, for information on how to get started with Cemu.
- For 3DS: Most of Citra forks supports revived private server projects. Currently most software has incomplete support/work-in-progress.
- See Preservation projects page for more information about other revive projects. Also see 3DS and Wii U games that support the Nintendo Network online connection and revived ones.
Shutdown
The service is shutdown as of April 8, 2024. The only way to play online again on the Nintendo 3DS system is to use revived private server projects (requires a jailbroken 3DS with boot9strap and Luma3DS custom firmware), or the Wii U version, the Wii U home console can be modded—using the Aroma homebrew environment—to use revived private server projects to its fullest capability, or you can use the SSSL method without having to modify the console but with limited features.
- See #Emulation section for more information, Also see Preservation projects page for more information about other revive projects.
Nintendo eShop
The Nintendo eShop is a digital distribution service via the Nintendo Network for the Wii U and Nintendo 3DS. eShop served as the successor to both the Wii Shop Channel and DSi Shop.
- Azahar includes new features not present in other Citra forks, such as the ability to download owned games from the Nintendo eShop.
