Memorial Series (メモリアル☆シリーズ) is a series of emulated Family Computer games released for the PlayStation by Sunsoft between 2001 and 2002, only in Japan. The compilations are also PlayStation 2-compatible and later were been re-released on PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Portable as part of Game Archives (for the latter, it is also compatible with PlayStation Vita through backwards compatibility).
Overview
[edit | edit source]Each compilation comes with two games inside, alongside some music, images and quiz segments. The games and the emulator behind them are bundled into a standard PlayStation .exe file (either called PSG_ARAB.EXE and PSG_IKKI.EXE, applying for every disc), which means they can be combined into fan-made multi-game compilations with ease.
After booting up the emulated game, the player can press L1+L2 to reset the game or R1+R2 to go back to the menu (attempting this by running the game as a quickload or in a multigame disc causes the console to be stuck into a black screen, where an actual Reset on the console itself must be done). Saving data of them on a memory card is not possible. Overall, these compilations should be only used for games that are not compatible with imbNES due to its limited iNES Mapper support.
While the games play at full speed, the most known emulation problem is the sound; notably, Gimmick! is the most offender of all, due to its expansion soundchip that is exclusive to it and was not used in other commercial games.
