What makes mGBA a piece of shit? Without proof, that edit is useless.

What makes mGBA good? Without proof, that edit is useless. Oh right tilt sensors or whatever, literally no fucks are given about such a feature. Have any of you actually tried this emulator? Because it's shit in almost every way, it has what, less ram usage, again literally no fucks as it's 20 fucking 15. vs. vs. -- See that frame rate, yeah and it fucking sounds terrible because of it too, and say what you will about the filter being used (eat me) but xBRZ4x should tax the emulator more no? And it still runs at 100%, mGBA with defaults can't even hit 50fps.
Oh and mGBA option menus, LOL. / -- Special
Plz enough with this edit war and name calling.
no$GBA can't even get the software rendered 3D GBA games right (even though it does GBA/GBA link cable and Boktai somewhat good). IDeaS, higan and MESS are so rudimentary it's not even funny. THOSE are emulators deserving the "not recommended" tag.
mGBA and VBA-M are functional (both accuracy and speed, and mGBA has an even higher compatibility and a better cheat manager than VBA-M, but lacks customized hardware renders and those debug viewers for romhacking purposes -but if we started to care about those no$gba would be the best by far, huh?- so we can't say in absolute terms mGBA isn't recommended with a straight face). They both deserve the "recommended" tag, period.
I don't see how they both support the recommended tag. Compared to mGBA, VBA-M is less accurate, less compatible and slower. That alone should ring alarm bells. Mudlord (talk) 23:26, 12 April 2016 (EDT)
Just imagine how laughable it would be to tag DeSMume as "not recommended" just because no$gba exists, even though DeSMume can open games no$gba simply can't. Compatibility isn't a "niche feature".
If you have a beef with mGBA, just help with its direct competitor's article (VBA-M) and all the stuff that only it can do.

VBA-M: Recommended Or Not?[edit]

Since this edit war is going on, someone explain in detail why VBA-M is not recommended anymore and yet other similar emulators like SNES9X are still recommended. 22:05, 28 January 2016 (EST)

Compared to mGBA, it's less accurate, less compatible, slower, and doesn't really offer any more features. Snes9x is still recommended as it's faster than bsnes/higan, and when it comes to standalones many prefer it's GUI over higan. --SonofUgly (talk) 22:46, 28 January 2016 (EST)
I might be biased, but I wouldnt recommend VBA-M with a 10 foot pole. Mudlord (talk) 23:23, 12 April 2016 (EDT)
MY 2 cents: VBA-M has improved a lot, is still active developed and they are adding missing feature that mGBA supports. Personal opinions: compared to higan gives a lot less headache with GBA emulation (frame sync vs audio sync) and a lot better performance. It may not accurate as mGBA and as higan, but for the avarage user, it may be the best alternative to mGBA. -- 08:30, 17 November 2018 (EST)
The settings in VBA-M seem somewhat more customizable than mGBA (allowing you to change which kinds of save files it tries to detect for example). VBA-M allows you to limit your full screen stretching such that it remains at the frame size you've set it at (mGBA has no such functionality as far as I know). mGBA's audio accuracy also seems fairly off unless I'm mistaken. People are widely claiming that mGBA is more accurate but actually I've only seen evidence to the contrary. 23:02, 2 September 2023 (UTC)

More Emulators[edit]

Mednafen and Virtual Game Boy Advance (VGBA) do run Game Boy Advance ROMs.

What's the deal with MyBoy?[edit]

There is no explanation for it being "Not Recommended", and that's weird cause it's pretty solid for what it is and you don't have to deal with the shitty controls and bloat that comes with RetroArch.

I have the same opinion. The edit was made by an anonymous user (

My Boy is the one with the most features, at least in android. Including: - Multiplayer - Solar sensor and motion control Which are both absent from the only android recommended option (gba.emu).

The only point why it shouldn't be recommended is because it isn't OSS: But while that is true, several others non-OSS emulators are recommended, as the list provided in the Recommended Emulators page seems more like a guide than an strict set of rules

That being said, I'm going to go ahead and update it to recommended. May anyone disagree, please state their opinions in this very thread.

What about Virtual Boy Advance?[edit]

Virtual Boy Advance is unreleased GB/C, VB, GBA, NDS, and 3DS emulator. Virtual Boy Advance is the unreleased mix of Gambatte, VBjin, VBA-M libretro, DeSmuME, No$GBA, VBA Link e-Reader and Citra. I think Virtual Boy Advance will be released 15 years later. -- (talk)

The fuck? Virtual Boy Advance is NOT A VB NDS 3DS emulator and NOT A MIX OF GAMBATTE VBJIN VBA-M LIBRETRO DESMUME NO$GBA VBA LINK ER-THATS NOT EVEN A FUCKING EMULATOR?! --LilShootDawg (talk) 07:49, 5 November 2018 (EST)

Not yet emulated[edit]

These systems have not been emulated yet, such as Xbox One, RDI Halcyon and Playdia.

Cool. This is the fucking GBA emulators. --LilShootDawg (talk) 10:24, 5 November 2018 (EST)

VBA "The original GBA emulator."[edit]

Hi, I noticed that Visual Boy Advance is referred to as "The original GBA emulator." on this page. Is VBA the same emulator as GBAEmu which released in September 2000 before the GBA came out? 23:37, 2 May 2020 (UTC)

No, VBA was forked several times, so calling it "the original" was meant to distinguish it from VBA-M, which is actively maintained. -FosterHaven (talk) 02:19, 3 May 2020 (UTC)
In that case I would propose switching it to "The original VBA emulator." and adding some information about GBAEmu (as it is an interesting piece of history). 23:46, 4 May 2020 (UTC)

mGBA & VBA-M[edit]

I heard that mGBA is faster and more accurate than VBA-M. Also, the "best" version of VBA-M has a broken link so is no longer available for download. Explain why it was more superior to the latest version.

Remove protection after data loss[edit]

Could you please remove the protection after the data loss? Some information might need to be updated. Lordlouckster (talk) 19:48, 5 July 2021 (UTC)

Done. --SonofUgly (talk) 22:44, 5 July 2021 (UTC)

About ares Game Link & E-Reader Support[edit]

After extensive testing and online research, I've come to the conclusion that ares doesn't support Game Linking and E-Reader functionalities. So if anyone thinks that the categories for ares should be changed, go right ahead.

Does AloneGBA still exist/has ever existed?[edit]

The link in the "version" column leads to a 404, and no results pop up on Google, or even in GitHub. Unless it is an extremely confidential project, there's little to no proof this emulator even exists or has ever existed.

EDIT: turns out using Wayback Machine provided results with "". However, it's not possible to download anything anymore. Should we really keep it in the list? Same goes for AloneSFC and AloneMD in their respective pages.

Move Bizhawk under mGBA[edit]

Bizhawk is currently just an emulator front end that contains an mGBA core. It would probably be nicer to de-duplicate the info by removing its row in the table and providing a link underneath mGBA like VBA-m and Mednafen have for their libretro cores.

Ares & Higan Cycle Accuracy[edit]

Both Ares and Higan's GBA emulators fail many of the timing tests required for cycle accuracy see here:

Nanoboy Advance is currently the only GBA emulator that really hits the spirit of this, having passed difficult cycle accuracy test benches on the CPU and its peripherals. SkyEmu is close, having a cycle accurate CPU and most peripherals, but notably lacks cycle accurate PPU emulation (SkyEmu is only accurate to the pixel ~4 clock cycles).

All other emulators are pretty far away lacking clock accurate CPU, cartridge, and PPU emulation.

mGBA audio accuracy[edit]

When I last used mGBA, I noticed that it emulated the GBA's audio quite inaccurately. Is there a reason I'm not aware of that this isn't mention on this page?
