The precursor to the '''toy-aisle console''', '''educational computers''' became a new market in the 80s; simplified systems designed to be educational and easy to use. These computers started to die out in the 1990s, when the toy aisle console started to appeal to parents looking for something similar to the NES, SNES or Genesis but with a bigger focus on safe, educational content. By the early 2000s, these kinds of consoles had almost completely taken over the market these computers once controlled. These systems are usually not designed to compete with the bigger names in the industry but to serve a niche audience.
