ZSNES Project Development

For ZSNES, the project is not actually dead. It is still in development. I heard that there are SVN builds of ZSNES.

nSide

I think nSide (a fork of higan with a balanced core and better NES emulation, among other things) should be mentioned. It also has a libretro core.

Recommended emulators

Is there any reason to still recommend nSide and bsnes-classic over Higan, bsnes and Snes9x? Jpx (talk) 07:40, 3 March 2019 (EST)

Mesen-S

Keep a close eye on this one as currently on version 0.4.0.21 you can even assign turbo buttons and even produces the shadow on Air Strike Patrol bellow the jet. As of now it overshadows SNES9x even on development versions. I Haven't switched it as recommended because Sour Mesen haven't officially released it but this can change at any time. Is there a developmental progress for ZSNES in AppVeyor? I am curious.

Why is ZSNES rated so low?

I used zSNESw for about 15 years. Recently, I discovered your (fantastic) website, so I tried BSNES and Mesen2. I definitely prefer zSNESw, for the following reasons:

• BSNES and Mesen2 do not allow to open the menus using the keyboard; they force me to use the mouse, thus wasting time.
• BSNES and Mesen2 do not allow to switch on/off individual layers. ZSNESW allowed me to make nice maps and to collect individual sprites.

I played pretty much just the following score of games on ZSNESW, without any problem ever: Ultima 6, Super Mario RPG, 7th Saga, Brain Lord, Mystic Ark, Soul Blazer, Drakkhen, The 3rd Legend of Zelda, ActRaiser 1, Super Mario All-Stars, Super Mario World, Yoshi's Island, Panel De Pon, Tetris & Dr.Mario, Goof Troop, Castlevania 4, Castlevania XX, Megaman 7-&B-X1-X2-X3. The only problem I ever had was one freezing near the end of Metroid 3, but I didn't like the game anyway.

So, why is ZSNES rated so low? Better: can you suggest another emulator that has the two features I wrote above? ---Abacos (talk) 23:03, 28 October 2023 (UTC)
