Source ports are a different thing. Source ports: developer releases source code, fans ports game (ie Doom). Game engine recreation: fans reverse engineer/recreates the game engine. I created [[Game engine recreations and source ports/FPS | this]] to give a slightly more thorough description of various source ports without cluttering the main page.
