Syrup Engine is an acronym for a collective of official emulators used in re-releases of retro games made by Implicit Conversions, a company known for developing the emulation of PlayStation games released as part of PlayStation Plus Classics on the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5.

List of systems emulated

As of November 21, 2025, Syrup Engine only emulates games released originally on NES and PlayStation, but it also supports SNES, Game Boy, Game Boy Advance, Genesis and Master System, all of which are currently unused.

Emulation of PlayStation 2 (codenamed Waffle) is in progress and PlayStation 3 (codenamed Benedict) emulation is also in development.

On April 24, 2026; the current iteration of Atari bought Implicit Conversions, which will be in charge and approval of licensing the Syrup Engine emulators for re-releases of third-party games.

Emulation accuracy

A fork of their own PlayStation emulator, codenamed Pancake, features netplay support for such games. It is supported in both PlayStation versions of Mortal Kombat Trilogy and Mortal Kombat 4 inside the compilation Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection (co-developed with Digital Eclipse and Atari SA) for online gameplay.
