kindred (formerly known as Super Sleuth and prior to that privately as SPX) is a cycle-accurate, freeware, closed-source multi-system emulator for Windows developed by Kris Bleakley (also known by his online alias, Overload). Originally started in 1998, it has been a work-in-progress for more than two decades, as proprietary to achieve accurate emulation.
It currently features varying levels of support for the NES, SNES, Game Boy/Color, Game Boy Advance, Nintendo DS, Sega Master System, Sega Mega Drive, Commodore 64, Commodore Amiga, IBM PC (XT and AT), and the Benesse Pocket Challenge W.
Because of kindred's strict focus on discrete knowledge of video game hardware and its constant structural evolution, standard user-facing features found in other emulators are sometimes non-existent or temporarily disabled in favor of precise hardware timing and behavior. It also includes built-in development features like a code inspector and single-step logging options.
