InterActual
InterActual featured DVDs were a unique way to add interactive features to a DVD. Unlike dedicated hardware platforms such as Nuon, these games and features are essentially computer programs designed to run on a PC. They are also not the same as DVDi. Instead, its an enhanced feature on a standard DVD that requires a compatible personal computer running the InterActual Player software to access the extra content. InterActual Player, originally known as PC Friendly, was a media player program for Windows 9x, Windows NT 5.x and Mac OS X. It was included on some DVDs with movie files and, in addition to providing DVD playback control, it made extra material available, including:
- Commentaries
- Pop-up notes
- Synchronized screenplays
- Games
The games and features are essentially computer programs (which may utilize dependencies) on the DVD-ROM part of the disc similarly to MovieCDs. The software requires existing DVD player software, which it embeds in its interface for playing the actual DVDs.
