The Virtual Boy is a supposedly fifth-generation handheld game console released by Nintendo and created by Game Boy creator Gunpei Yokoi on August 14, 1995. It has a NEC V810 CPU. It was the first games console to utilize 3D effects, however, is notable for only displaying graphics in red and black, as well as requiring users to attach the console to their head, usually while rested on the included tripod. The product was pulled shortly after release due to the majority of users getting headaches from using it. Notably, it was rushed to market and was never meant to be released in its current form.

===Comparisons=Overview==;higan is a project that originally separated from Near's previous SNES emulator Mednafenbsnes: Has 100% compatibility with commercial gameswhen they started adding more system cores. Lets you change the Virtual Boy higan's color output to any hex colorbsnes and bgba cores are its most developed/accurate. For exampleThe Nintendo 8-bit cores are very early in development, changing it and are inferior to white shows all the games in greyscale instead of redother existing emulators; alternatives include Gambatte, BGB, which really helps. 3D is enabled by defaultMesen, but you can turn it off. To play it on platforms not supported by Mednafen use the libretropuNES port which also supports SBS 3D by using glsl shaders, check this and ].redditBgba has made amazing strides from v095 on, getting very close to mGBA accuracy.comhigan also features a WonderSwan/r/Games/comments/4ibw0b/emulating_virtual_boy_in_3d_on_gear_vrgoogle/ Reddit post] WonderSwan Color core as of v098, which yields satisfactory results. The library-based GUI is not for instructionseveryone, though, and doesn't support drag and drop like a lot of other emulators do.;Near noticed that higan's UI is not for everybody and made a standalone version of VBjinbsnes: Also that is developed in parallel with higan's SNES core and has 100% compatibility with commercial games. Has a fork Qt UI that 's just like the earlier versions. They also worked on the new multi-system emulator supports byuu that aims to combine higan with the Oculus Riftease of use of bsnes. For those that still aren't satisfied, RetroArchhas its own libretro cores of higan and bsnes to use with its interface.;Rustual Boy: Claims ===Game folders===higan is unique among emulators for introducing the concept of game folders. Game folders were about accurately representing the game cartridge and its metadata. Things like SRAM, cheats, input settings, emulator metadata get stored with the game. ==List of forks==  ===nSide===100% compatibilitynSide nSide is a fork of higan that, howeveramong other things, accuracy isn't adds support for more boards such as the Atari 2600 as good well as Mednafen or even VBjinperipherals and the VS. UniSystem to the NES core. It also retains the SNES Balanced core and thus makes available new improvements to higan, such as the WASAPI driver and the IIR-Biquad interpolation filter, to users whose computers cannot run the Accuracy core-only releases from higan v098 onwards with full speed is even worse.;==External links==* r3Ddragonhigan Manual:Supports 3D on the New 3DS. Is slow and not finished. Based on Reality Boy / Red Dragon.;Planet Virtual Boy emulator: Is an up and coming emulator for 3DS (New and Oldcommunity-maintained) and other systems. Full 3D support on 3DS is promised.
