Controversies
[edit | edit source]After the software reached version 6.0.4 in May 2026, members of the community stated that the new Vulkan renderer contained copied material. Developers who work on the Winlator project said that GameHub put their open source code into its private package without even attribution. With technical analysis, community members found code signatures from external contributors that remained inside the binaries. This caused people to discuss the connection between the developers and the open source community again. In the talks people focused on how the team uses code with a GPL license in software that is private and generates money. To many observers, this is a problem because of the rules for open source software. There are many opinions on this topic because the developers are often connected to the EggNS team.[1][2]
