FinalBurn Alpha, the opensource-source available project was based on FinalBurn (created by Dave in 2000) and has been programmed by a team composed of Barry Harris (Old username: TrebleWinner), Jan_Klaassen, KEV, LoopMaster, Mike Haggar, Hyper Yagami and Ayeye.
FinalBurn was one of the first Capcom CPS2 emulators. When this project came to a halt in 2001, its sources were widely disseminated, which allowed the development of a large number of unofficial versions of which FBA is the most successful.

===ConsolesNon-Arcade===FB Neo is the first derivative of the late FinalBurn concept to start featuring widespread support of home console (and computer systems. Neo Geo CD/cartridge was probably the exception as it was supported in FBA. FB Neo is said to emulate before that, some have been there since late 2000s) also supports the following non-arcade systems:
'''Consoles:'''* ColecoVision* Microsoft MSX1* Nec PC-Engine* Nec SuperGrafx* Mega Drive/GenesisNec TurboGrafx-16
* Neo Geo CD
* PC Engine/TurboGrafx-16Neo Geo Pocket and Pocket Color* Nintendo Family Disk System* Nintendo NES* Sega GameGear* Sega Master System'''Note:''' According to the new FBN Git wiki, just after mid-2019, "FB Neo also has WIP console/computer drivers for * Sega MegadriveMegaDrive/Genesis, ColecoVision, * Sega SG-1000, Sega Master System/Game Gear, MSX-1, * Sinclair ZX Spectrum and also PC-Engine/TurboGrafx 16/SuperGrafx."spectrum
