3Beans is an experimental low-level emulator for the Nintendo 3DS handheld console. Unlike high-level emulators, 3Beans runs the entire 3DS operating system as if it were executing on real hardware. The emulator is still in early development and can boot the home menu and play some cartridge-based games, though it has numerous issues and limitations. It is developed by Hydr8gon, known for other emulation projects including NooDS.

Required Files

edit

To function, 3Beans requires several files dumped from a real 3DS console using homebrew tools like GodMode9:

  • boot9.bin
  • boot11.bin
  • nand.bin - NAND dump from the console

Old 3DS dumps are preferable for best performance and stability. An optional sd.img file can be created to simulate an SD card. Once these files are present, 3Beans should function.
