I don't agree with labeling licenses as good or bad (green/red)

[edit source]

I think the point of this template is to allow the reader to make an informed decision and come to their own conclusion by reading about each license. Because each license can have positive and negative aspects depending on what you're looking to do with it, it shouldn't be a deciding factor for the reader to worry about *unless* they know what the licenses actually mean (which they can easily find out by clicking the link and reading about it). Thus, we should avoid generalizing and labeling any one license as good or bad. I noticed non-commercial licenses are marked as red, which in my eyes is very problematic because a non-commercial license is not the same as a proprietary license, and by making it the same color as proprietary, we're conveying that they're similar and should both be avoided. In actuality, there's very little reason why an end user would want to avoid a non-commercial license. We can still factor the license into the decision-making for the Recommended status of each emulator, but assigning each license a color is a bad idea and I think we should avoid doing it. Whether a license is good or not can in many cases be subjective, so I think it's best that we let the reader decide for themselves. -MisterSheeple (talk) 02:10, 17 October 2024 (UTC)

It is the same colors as it was when using the FLOSS column. Non-commercial is still listed in yellow as it was before license template and source-available is in red. At the start the license template removed the colors, it was only re-added for the license template after SuperGamer18 suggested it. 172.68.174.228
The main reason I even suggested bringing the colors back was so it could look nicer and less bland. I do understand MisterSheeple's opinion though. Thanks for the feedback! :3 SuperGamer18 (talk) 23:22, 22 November 2024 (UTC)
I Agree source-available should be changed to yellow. I also think others should agree with the removal of colors for licenses before any action is done. I would rather not act on either until others agree on it. 108.162.245.130
