This approach simplifies internal CPU mechanics and ignores real clock frequency or FLOPs of the emulated system. While this sacrifices accuracy, it leads to significantly faster emulation and still has broader software compatibility. However, some niche software may still encounter compatibility limitations. Also, if MMX instruction set is required by the game you need to use a supported DOSBox fork to play it such as DOSBox-staging or DOSBox-X, see MMX Instruction Set Support feature request for DOSBox Pure.
