Hiyoko is the Game Boy and Game Boy Color emulator used for Nintendo Switch Online.

Overview

Game Boy (Color) games were added to the service in February 2023 alongside Game Boy Advance games locked to the Expansion Pack tier. It does not emulate features from Super Game Boy-compatible games, and it is currently unknown if there are GBA enhancements for certain GBC games.

The app adopted the Nintendo Classics branding with version 3.0.0.

Features

• Supports online and Local Play (up to 2 players);
• Supports tilt controls through gyroscope or normal controllers;
• Supports infrared emulation;
• Allows exchange of regional variants in the International version of the app (USA and/or European versions);
• The BIOS animation can be seen in high definition by booting up the app while holding the left analog stick in any direction. The animation will be based on the color palettes the player choose in the Options (ver 3.0.0)
• The boot app sound (also from the BIOS) has been replaced with the coin SFX from Super Mario Land. (ver 3.0.0)
• Individual input remapping for each game. (ver 3.0.0)
• Support for external challenges related to Nintendo Switch 2 games to unlock in-game goods, such as Donkey Kong Bananza. (ver. 4.0.0)
