[[High Level Emulation]] (HLE) does not require files, but is often times more prone to errors. [[Low Level Emulation]] (LLE) requires files, but it is much more accurate.
Many bios are copyrighted and can only be legally optained by dumping them from a console. They cannot legally be shared on the internet. MD5   MD5 hashes are a way of verifying that your file is the correct one and/or that it's not corrupt. There's a few ways to check; for Windows users, try using WinMD5.
