N-Gage Service (also called as "N-Gage 2.0" or "N-Gage Next Generation") was Nokia's mobile gaming service, that was available for several Nokia phones running on Symbian OS (including N series and other S60v3 devices). It was developed by Nokia Corporation on 4 February 2008. The service was a successor of the original N-Gage device with great graphics (2D & 3D), great sound and gameplay. There are games with multiplayer via Bluetooth and via the N-Gage Arena (via the Internet). We can't play through the Arena, because the service is closed. N-Gage 2.0 launcher is installed as a regular .sisx application, and games for it in .n-gage format are installed and run through this application. It was never released in Japan and Korea.

The closure of the platform was Nokia announced that no new N-Gage 2.0 games would be produced, effectively shutting down the N-Gage 2.0 platform on 30 October 2009, at the end of 2010, All N-Gage services and the N-Gage Arena servers (online multiplayer, synchronization of achievements, chat) were stopped, and on 31 March 2011, the service was finally closed, stopping the game activation server, so purchased Games can no longer be activated after formatting the device memory.

Overview[edit]

N-Gage 2.0 was a mobile games service by Nokia. Available in compatible Nokia N-Series and other S60v3 mobile phones (Symbian OS 9.1-9.3) from Nokia, although it was also (officially) implemented on a single S60v5 mobile, the Nokia N97, (and unofficially on other phones, such as the Nokia 5800 Xpress Music, which used touch wrappers because it didn't have buttons and 5230 Xpress Music).

In 2007, the new N-Gage 2.0 platform was released and it is exclusive to the N81 until April 2008 when N-Gage 2.0 platform released to the public for some compatible S60v3 devices (Including N95).

N-Gage 2.0 Installer
(Technically) This is not an emulator nor compatibility layer, but a completely native Symbian S60 application, using the Symbian OS P.I.P.S. libraries. in games. In what follows, we will refer to the application itself (shell) simply as "N-Gage". Not compatible with first generation N-Gage games. To begin with, we need a jailbroken smartphone that can install unsigned applications, otherwise jailbroken games won't be easy to install. The only option for installing N-Gage and games without hacking the device's protection is the laborious process of signing N-Gage and its components (provided that the device is not officially supported and / or we want to install the assembly) and jailbroken games with a personal certificate, which are no longer issued because Symbian Signed is closed. So, without a personal certificate, without hacking the device's protection, hacked N-Gage games cannot be played in any way.
EKA2L1

1) Install the "5320 XpressMusic" use only ROM dump method via rpkg on EKA2L1, and restart the emulator.

2) Open the EKA2L1, after go to the file manager and then install the "N-Gage 2.0 v1.40.1557 by BodyZ, Fixed by FROST_A-52" app and close the emulator.

3) Copy and put the ".n-gage" file of your game in this path of the emulator:
\data\drives\c\data\n-gage\ or \data\drives\e\n-gage\.

4) Open the emulator and click on the "N2.0 Icon.jpg (Games)" application and wait for the game to be installed. Once it's done, restart the emulator, open "Games" application again and play.

History[edit]

1.40.1557_all_r4_rc10 by BodyZ
The last version of the N-Gage application build for all Symbian S60v3.x push-button smartphones.

BodyZ's classic build (all-in-one) for smartphones based on Symbian 9.2-9.3 (S60v3.1-3.2) with any screen resolution based on N-Gage 1.40.1557. Keep in mind that on non-standard resolutions, not all games go to the full screen and there's nothing to be done about it. It is intended for both officially supported smartphones, and for unsupported ones.

Features in comparison to the official installer:

1) Will install on all smartphones based on Symbian 9.2-9.3 (S60v3.1-3.2). Unfortunately, this version does not start on S60v3.0;

2) All language files are left, but localization files are installed only for those languages that are available as system interface languages on the current software version of the device itself. That is, if the system has only English, French and Spanish languages, then only English, French and Spanish files will be installed. Russian, Chinese, German and others will not be installed. Initially BodyZ wanted to make installation only of language files for the current active interface language. But they had to abandon this idea because it turned out that the application "knows" the list of all languages for which it has localization. And if you do this and install the application with the English interface, then when you switch to the French interface, the application will stop running, as it will look for resources for the French language that will not be installed;

3) Surprisingly, this version have hidden support for landscape screen mode for application itself. But it was intended for devices with 240x320 screens with autorotation feature. Therefore, on devices with 320x240 screens softkeys placeholder are still on the right side of the screen. But, at least all application now fits in screen. This have no effect on games. If game didn't run properly in earlier versions of app, it will not now;

4) Added configuration files for officially unsupported devices. No need to place any files manually. Just install and play;

5) For unknown reason default configuration file for N82 doesn't have support for landscape orientation at all, so you could only play games in portrait mode which is a shame if you would like to play COTD. In BodyZ's previous builds BodyZ fixed that by installing for N82 the same profile as for unsupported officially models. In that way you get your "Device rotation" options in games, but you lose ability to control some games (updated version of Bounce Boing Voyage, Powerboat Challenge) by accelerometer. So, finally, in this build I was able to edit default N82 configuration file to add support for "Device rotation", so you don't have to sacrifice anything anymore;

6) Default configuration files are modded for best performance without any drawbacks. Difference is mostly notable in graphics-heavy games like Asphalt 3 and ONE.

7) Written from scratch configuration files for some pretty exotic devices for N-Gage platform like: 6760, 6790, X5-01, E61, E71, E72, E70. Even with support for accelerometer for devices (6760, 6790, X5-01, E72) that have it. Moreover, BodyZ managed to map some additional controls to QWERTY keyboard, so you can get the most of it. Layout was inspired by default layout in N-Gage from N97 mini. Q, P - "A" gaming key; A, Backspace - "B" gaming key; SZXC and .!'Ctrl - directional keys; Space - "OK"; Shift - "Backspace". But keep in mind that some games, like Metal Gear Solid Mobile and Resident Evil: Degeneration don't "see" that additional mapped keys. Don't know why.

8) Deleted "TRIAL" cap from installed games icons;

9) Updated "Symbian OS PIPS" from default 1.03 version to latest 1.7.5;

10) Built-in patch, that fixes issues with running cracked versions of games on S60v3.2 (Symbian 9.3) devices. Will install only for such devices because there is no need fox this patch on S60v3.1 (Symbian 9.2) and S60v3.0 (Symbian 9.1) devices.

12) Will install only on "hacked" devices with patched installserver for installation of unsigned .sis files;

13) Automatically will install to device memory (C:/) like official installer. And you will not have to manually accept installation of each component, that are pretty much here. If you like accepting installation of each and every component and want to install N-Gage to memory card or mass storage, than extract "D:\private\2000a2ae\n-gage.sisx" from this package by SisEditor on device or SISContents on PC and run it's installation;

1.40.1557

- At the first start, a window appears once in a couple of words describing what N-Gage is;

- A colorful video appeared at every start;

- On the "Games" tab, in addition to the "More games" button, a button "Install games from a PC" also appeared (it was not successfully localized, of course, it meant installing N-Gage games using a PC), where a couple of words describe how to install N-Gage and download games using your PC to your smartphone; - Finally, if you go to your profile on an absolutely clean device, then the total number of NGPs will be pulled up from the N-Gage Arena. In the profiles of the games themselves, the received NGPs are not restored, only the total number of them received for this game is displayed on the arena tab;

- You can no longer choose which drive to install the game on during the installation of games, instead, the default drive is E: / in the settings, so all games are immediately installed on the card / drive without prompting. You can select a different drive (C: / and F: /) if you want. If there is not enough memory on the selected disk for automatic installation, then when you try to install the game, the application will warn you about this and prompt you to choose where to install the game;

1.20.1459

- New orange round icon for the application itself with the letter "n" in the middle. The installer still has the old blue rectangle labeled "n-gage"; - "N2.0 Icon.jpg (Games)"

1.10.1318

- Fixed a problem with the inability to launch the application if you dial 10'000 NGP or more and / or add 50 or more friends;

N-Gage app versions[edit]

The latest most versatile version of N-Gage for pushbutton devices is version 1.21.1536.

The latest version of N-Gage for button devices in general is version 1.40.1557, but it only works on S60v3.1 and S60v3.2 (Symbian 9.2 and 9.3, respectively). On S60v3.0 (Symbian 9.1) this version of N-Gage just hangs at startup and there is nothing to be done about it.

As it turned out, version 1.40.1557 introduced support for resolutions other than 240x320 for the N-Gage application itself, namely 640x360 and 640x480, and orientations other than portrait, as well as partial support for touch input in the application itself. In terms of permissions and touch input, everything is in its infancy and does not work properly, but in terms of support for landscape orientation for a resolution of 240x320, everything is done quite well. Therefore, this is the only version that looks tolerable on devices with a horizontally oriented screen. Only the softkeys on the right, as if on a device with a portrait-oriented screen rotated to landscape orientation. Yes, and unfortunately, the application did not learn to automatically change the orientation following the system, so for devices with a port-oriented screen, this does not work.

Versions 1.2х.хххх work only on devices with a display resolution of 240x320 and 320x240.

On devices with a resolution other than 240x320, all versions of the application are launched below 1.10.1345, as well as 1.40.1557. Versions 1.2х.хххх simply do not start and everything on such devices.

For example, on the E90, when the internal screen is open (800x352), the application version 1.2x.xxxxx does not start with the "System error" window, while if you close the internal screen and switch to the external one (240x320), then everything starts without problems and works fine after switching to the inner screen. At the same time, versions below 1.10.1345, as well as version 1.40.1557 on the same E90, are launched without problems from any screen.

But on the N80, 3250 and 5500 nothing newer than 1.10.1345 can be launched, since versions 1.2x.xxxxx do not start there due to the screen resolution, and version 1.40.1557 does not start because of the OS version S60v3.0.

For S60v5.x (Symbian^1) there is only one version - 1.30.1541.

I highly recommend installing the N-Gage app to your phone's memory. With it, the application starts faster and works more stable, because initially, it was designed to work only from the phone's memory (the official version of N-Gage is automatically installed into the phone's memory without the option of choosing). Also, game saves and all data from N-Gage will still be in the phone's memory, even if the application itself and games are installed on a memory card.

Total, depending on the resolution and OS version, the following versions need to be installed on the device:

Nokia
3250 / N91 / E60 / N80 / E70 - 1.10.1345
9.1 240x320 & 320x240 - 1.21.1536
E90 - 1.40.1557
9.2-9.3 240x320 & 320x240 - 1.40.1557
9.4 (S60v5) - 1.30.1541
Symbian^3 - not supported

Samsung / Sony Ericsson
9.2 - not supported
9.3 - 1.40.1557
9.4 - not supported

How to play[edit]

S60 devices
1) Hack your phone using the Trend Micro or Norton quarantine hacks (Historically, the method of choice was HelloOX but that requires the HelloOX sis installer to be signed using OPDA which is now defunct).

2) After that (if the phone is hacked), install the "N-Gage 2.0 Installer v1.40.1557 by BodyZ".

3) Put game files with ".n-gage" extension on your SD card.

4) Turn on patches in "RomPatcher+", and open the N-Gage 2.0 Installer.

5) Wait for it to prepare the games and then install them.

6) After that (if games installed), turn off patches in RomPatcher+.

NOTE: If it didn't work, try reinstalling the app.

Installing games[edit]

We copy games (.n-gage file) (copy it exactly, because after installing the game, the original .n-gage file is deleted) a folder in E: / n-gage / or C: / Data / n-gage / After that, go to N-Gage and install. N-Gage version 1.40.1557 automatically installs games on the memory card (you can change it to another drive in the settings in the settings) without asking for the installation location by default. Versions below give the opportunity to choose at the time of installation (phone, memory card, storage). Also on devices based on S60v3.2 (Symbian 9.3), you can simply click on the .n-gage file in the standard file manager and some third-party ones (unfortunately, X-plore is not among them) and N-Gage will automatically start and start installation. At the same time, the original file (.n-gage) will also be deleted at the end of the installation, as in the method with copying to the E: / n-gage / or C: / Data / n-gage / folder.

On devices with a screen resolution below 240x320, when installing games, a dialog with a choice on which disk to install the game simply does not fit on the screen. Clicking on OK will continue installation to the phone memory. But since the phone memory on those 3250 and N91 is very small (10 and 15 MB, respectively), BodyZ would like to be able to install games on the E: / drive. As it turned out, it is quite logical to press down, and then OK in the dialog with the choice of where to install games, all the same continues to install games in the phone's memory, which in most cases will only cause the error "Memory full. Please select another type of memory". It turned out that you need to press UP, and then OK, and not down, which is especially interesting considering that on devices with a 240x320 screen, you can see that the cursor in this dialog has a circular scrolling.

If you accidentally installed the game in the phone's memory and want to reinstall it on a memory card or drive, then just copy the game file again to the E: / n-gage / or C: / Data / n-gage / folder and go to N-Gage, to reinstall the game to the desired memory. As soon as N-Gage finds a .n-gage file in the E: / n-gage / or C: / Data / n-gage / folder for an already installed game, it will automatically uninstall the installed game without removing progress from it. In this case, the game in the list will become "gray", as if we are just installing it for the first time.

We don't worry about N-Gage Points in N-Gage when deleting games, they remain in the player's profile and if you install the game back, they will be in place in the application. But the save from the games will be deleted. In some games, N-Gage Points are also duplicated in the game itself, but since this information is stored in the game save, it will be erased when the game is deleted. That is, all NGP received will remain in the N-Gage application if the game is completely uninstalled and installed again, but in the game itself, if there is a menu with NGP there, it will not.

Games determine the version of the installed N-Gage from the information in the application manager. Therefore, you can change the version of the application to whatever you want with a simple empty PU-type package, and this information will change in the "About N-Gage" section in the application itself. In this way, you can, for example, install games that require at least version N-Gage v1.2x.xxxx on N-Gage v1.01.1296.

Arena[edit]

There are games with multiplayer via Bluetooth and the N-Gage Arena (via the Internet). Can't play Arena because the service is closed.

FP2 devices:
5320 XM, 6220, 6210, N78, N96

Also, support for the Nokia N73, N93 and N93i was announced in the future, but later this was abandoned, with the reference to the fact that these devices have little memory (RAM). In fact, everything plays fine there if you install a third-party N-Gage installer build.

It is most convenient to play on devices with dedicated game keys (N81, 5320 Xpress Music, 5730 Xpress Music) and on dual sliders (N85, N86 8MP, N95, N95 8GB, N96). Double sliders use the Stop and Play / Pause buttons as game keys. In the games themselves, in the settings, these keys will be called "A" and "B", both in the case of dedicated keys, and in the case of the keys of the double sliders. By default, games on these devices are launched in a horizontal orientation with a 270°-degree screen rotation and control on the navigation key for the left hand and the A and B keys for the right. The tightness of games for such a control scheme is especially noticeable in the game Worms World Party, where all control is only on the navigation key, keys A and B and soft keys. Although, a lot of functions could be rendered on the numeric keys for portrait orientation.

In fact, N-Gage 2.0 works on almost all Nokia devices on S60v3.0-v3.2 (Symbian 9.1-9.3) and S60v5.x (Symbian^1).

On Symbian^3 and higher, unfortunately, games do not start for no apparent reason, while the application itself starts and works normally.

But, since there are many exotic devices with non-standard screen resolutions on S60v3.0 (Symbian 9.1), the compatibility with them is worse.

On the E50 and 5500, for unknown reasons, there is sound in games, and the screen is black. Moreover, if you hold down the menu button to call the standard task manager, then the image in the game will be visible in the background, but if you just return to the game, the screen turns black again.

And on the E60, E70, N80, due to the screen resolution 352x416, the application itself and the games do not go to full screen. Although there are exceptions for games, see the section "Compatibility of games with non-standard devices".

With 3250 / N91 the same story, they have a screen resolution of 176x208, so the application and games do not fit into the screen. But, some games still run in full screen on 3250 / N91 when using a profile edited for this resolution. Their list is in the section "Compatibility of games with non-standard devices".

Of the devices based on S60v3.1 (Symbian 9.2), only the E90, which has two screens, has a non-standard screen resolution. It would seem that everything should go fine on the external screen, which is 240x320, but it is not. A list of games that are available on the E90 and on which of the screens specifically, is in the section "Compatibility of games with non-standard devices".

On smartphones with a horizontal screen (E61, E62, E63, E71, E72, etc.), the application itself will not be full screen, but this does not particularly hinder their use. It's just that there will be a little empty space on the right, and not all items from the menu are visible in the height of the screen. Games generally run fine, full screen, but not all. A list of games that are definitely going well and games that cannot be played normally can be found in the "Compatibility of games with non-standard devices" section. In some games, the screen will be stripes or cut off at the bottom.

As it turned out, the application version 1.40.1557 has support for resolutions other than 240x320 and orientations other than portrait. Which was used in BodyZ's last (for 2017) build of the N-Gage application, so it is strongly recommended to install it on devices other than those based on S60v3.0, since it does not run there at all.

Likewise, N-Gage games do not support QWERTY keyboards, only numeric keyboards on the E71 and E63. At the same time, everything is fine on the E61 and E72. Therefore, be sure to assign yourself number keys through MagicKey or in another way. Otherwise, except for the navigation and soft keys in games, the buttons will not work. In BodyZ's last builds (for 2017), nothing needs to be reassigned, everything is taken into account in the device profiles.

An interesting fact is that on smartphones with a horizontal screen, in games, the soft-key signatures are in their places, although on none of the officially supported devices we will not see such an arrangement of soft-key signatures in games.

On smartphones from Samsung on S60v3.1 (i400, i520, G810) games for unknown reasons do not start. At the same time, on Samsung smartphones on S60v3.2 (i7110, i8510) everything works almost like on Nokia smartphones on S60v3.2, including the moment with the need to install a fix for the correct operation of all hacked games.

There is also a version for S60v5.x (Symbian^1), originally developed only for the N97, so a physical keyboard is welcome, but it is quite possible to play on other devices if you install a virtual on-screen keyboard and assign the necessary buttons to it. True, due to the lack of multitouch, not all games can be fully played, for example, in ONE, some combos cannot be made due to the impossibility of "pressing" two buttons at the same time. Unfortunately, not all N-Gage games are available on the N97, a complete list of what is available is in the section "Compatibility of games with non-standard devices".

On Samsung i8910, Sony Ericsson Satio, Sony Ericsson Vivaz and Sony Ericsson Vivaz Pro, even the N-Gage application itself does not start. So you won't be able to play these devices at all. There is unverified information that on modified firmware on Samsung i8910 the application and games are still launched.

List of N-Gage 2.0 Games[edit]

As of October 23, 2009, there were 49 games released and other games were cancelled due to the shutting down of the N-Gage service.

Not all games were exclusive to the N-Gage 2.0, some of these games are sequels or remakes or one-to-one ports of the first generation N-Gage games or some are partially cut relative to the N-Gage versions. Some of games backports/remake from J2ME/BREW/Symbian etc.

F.A.Q.
Games from the first generation Nokia N-Gage (which is a smartphone, not an application) cannot run on N-Gage 2.0 due to the binary incompatibility of S60v1.x and S60v3.x.

If you get the error "KERN-EXEC 3" when you try to start the game, then you need to close full access to the file system (press CapsOn or disable the patch on4all).

If the error "Close sоme attachments and retry starting thе gаme. (Error -1000002)", then you need to free RAM (about 20 MB is needed for comfortable operation of N-Gage and games, although most games are 16 MB or less).

An error (Error Code -18) means that you have something wrong with the P.I.P.S .. Reinstalling them should help.

Also, if, when trying to start any game, we are almost instantly returned to the N-Gage application, and the game icon becomes translucent and when we try to start the game we are offered to delete it, then something is also wrong with "PIPS", "Standard C ++ Libriary" or "Open C LIBSSL". Most likely some of these components are not installed at all.

If, when trying to install a hacked game, N-Gage writes that the file is corrupted and prompts you to delete it, then the installserver patch is not active (on S60v3.2 (Symbian 9.3) and higher) or installserver.exe is missing on S60v3.0-S60v3. 1 (Symbian 9.1 and 9.2).

If, when you try to start any game, the device simply reboots, then you are using the latest Jbak TaskMan (v1.41 and v1.40) because of which this is happening. Just close it before starting the game or use the previous versions (v1.37 and below), there is no such problem with them.

If, when installing hacked Asphalt 3: Street Rules ™ or ONE, an error [Unable to install game (Error -1)] appears at the end, then you need to download the corrected versions. Use a search for these keywords: Asрhalt3_fixed_bу_BodуZ and ONE_fiхеd_bу_BоdуZ

When you first start the hacked version of Asphalt 3: Street Rules ™, the game crashes a lot of people after choosing whether to turn on the sound in the game. When you restart it, it may crash already at the stage of choosing the language of the game. We just start the game until you go through these two steps. After they have been successfully completed, in most cases the game will no longer crash on startup. Probably a little crooked hacking, that's why these departures.

On N95 8GB (and possibly other models), after installing N-Gage, it will have 3 "phantom" games and an error reading the database after starting. This is due to the fact that after formatting from the Z: / drive, the file private / 20003B85 / gamepurchase.db is copied to the device's memory, which is responsible for the list of installed games. It has 3 games "installed": Asphalt 3, FIFA 08, Snakes Subsonic. And since after the format the games themselves are no longer in place, we get an error and 3 "phantoms". There are two options for solving this problem: 1) Delete file C: /private/20003B85/gamepurchase.db. Good if you haven't installed the games yet. Otherwise, you will have to reinstall everything anew. 2) Install these 3 games and the error will go away. Then these games can be deleted.

After installing at least one N-Gage game on the memory card, the file E: \. Plau_mc.id will appear on it. This is a kind of checklist of all games installed on the N-Gage memory card. If you delete it, then the games installed on the memory card in N-Gage will become "gray" and when we try to start we will be asked if we really want to delete the game. So we don't touch him. If you have already removed it, then only reinstalling all the necessary games will help.

Most of the problems with starting games that are not described in this document are solved by closing access to system folders and freeing up RAM.

FIFA 09 at the time of launch requires about 25 MB of RAM, although further it consumes much less. Therefore, it is so easy on devices where 20 MB of RAM is free, it cannot be started.

The cracked version of Brothers in Arms crashes after the first launch, and subsequent launches already work fine.

Almost everyone in Brothers in Arms has a stutter. This can only be fixed by installing the game in the phone's memory, if it is enough.

If Pro Series Golf crashes after hitting 2, then you need to replace the current P.I.P.S. at 1.01. This will cure the crash after the second hit, but the hacked version of the game will still crash periodically and there is nothing you can do about it. For those who have a license, an updated version of the game was released where this bug was cured.

Since some N-Gage games were also released in SISX versions, if, for example, the SISX version of the game is already installed, then the N-Gage version may not be installed. And vice versa. Not all games released in N-Gage and SISX versions have this problem. But, for example, Crash Bandicoot Nitro Kart 3D in SISX will not install if the N-Gage version of this game is already installed. And vice versa.

Facts
On the N93 and N93i, there are no screen rotation points at all in games, and the games themselves change orientation when the mechanism is turned to the appropriate orientation. That is, for example, we launch the game in the portrait orientation of the display, and then simply unfold the device to the "laptop" orientation, and in the game the screen itself will turn to the desired orientation. Similarly, everything works with a turn to the video camera mode, and you can even use the side joystick in games.

This is the only known device with this behavior. But there is one big problem with this feature. Probably, since support for the N93 and N93i was eventually abandoned, this functionality turned out to be not fully functional, and for unknown reasons, if you press any key after starting any game in portrait orientation, the game immediately crashes. If you do not press anything, then it goes fine. There is no such problem with the launch in the "laptop" orientation.

Almost all games have a "Switch to N-Gage" or simply "N-Gage Application" feature that allows you to return to the N-Gage application without closing the game. For this function to work, you need about 25-30 MB of RAM, otherwise the game will simply crash and that's it. Usually, N-Gage warns that there is not enough memory to return to the application, and offers to close the game in order to return to N-Gage.

Also, in almost all games, holding the left soft key has the same effect. For example, in FIFA 08, holding the left soft key is the only way to return to N-Gage without closing the game itself.

Due to the fact that few people bought games from us, few people know that if you delete a purchased game from N-Gage, then we delete only the game itself, and the save from it remains in place. It's just that the game icon becomes "gray" and when you click on it, we are offered to delete these very save from the game completely. Having installed the game again, we will be able to continue it from where we left off, because the save from it is still stored in N-Gage.

Hacked games formally run in the system as trial versions, therefore, to the right of each hacked game, we see the "TRIAL." and this token with saving is not available to us with N-Gage. When you uninstall a trial or a jailbroken version of a game in N-Gage, it is completely deleted with the save.

However, you can achieve the effect of "deleting the purchased game" for the broken version, if you delete the game through the "Application Manager". Then, the save from the game will remain in place in N-Gage and the game will also become "gray" in N-Gage.

Almost all N-Gage games from Gameloft, EA, Eidos and Polarbit were released in SISX (S60v3.x and S60v5.x) versions as well. As a rule, SIS versions have been slightly trimmed compared to N-Gage versions, but some games are generally identical to both SISX and N-Gage versions.

Moreover, many games were released first in SIS, even before the launch of N-Gage 2.0. Some N-Gage 2.0 games were also released for S60v2.6 (Symbian 8.0 and higher) or were originally released for S60v1.x - S60v2.x (Symbian 6.1 - Symbian 8.1a), and then ported to S60v3.x, and then already ported to N-Gage 2.0.

The .n-gage format of games is nothing more than just two regular .sis packages glued into one file plus a header with game metadata. The first .sis is of type SA and contains only information about the installed game (the minimum version of the N-Gage application required to run it, a brief description and game identifiers used when activating it) and its icons for the N-Gage application. After opening the file with the game in the N-Gage application, this part is installed automatically and we can see a semi-transparent game icon in the list and continue the installation or postpone. The second package is of the PU type and contains the game itself, as well as information about the available N-Gage Points and icons for them. After confirming the installation of the game in the selected memory, the installation of this part of the game is already taking place.

All versions of the official N-Gage installer have profiles (20001079.txt) of devices for a number of not officially supported models, namely: 3250, E70, N93, N93i, 6110 Navigator, 6290, N76 and N73. They did not receive official support for the service, apparently due to a small amount of free RAM (they, on average, have about 20 MB of free RAM). Although, the same N95 has the same amount of free RAM and is supported. However, everything is clear with the N95, because the flagship is why they squeezed everything they could from it in terms of RAM in the latest firmware versions and gave it official support from N-Gage. N73, N93, N93i should have received official support, so the presence of profiles for them is expected. But with exotic devices with non-standard screen resolutions: 3250 and E70, it is not clear why they ended up in the retail package. Moreover, the profiles for the 3250 and E70 are incorrect, games with them simply won't start.

For a long time, www.n-gage.de had a promo picture of the Nokia N73 running the Mile High Pinball on it, even after it was announced that the N73, N93 and N93i would not receive official support for the service.

Some of the games for N-Gage 2.0 were shown as preview versions on smartphones like the N70. For example, there are photos from E3 2006, where the Nokia N70 launched Hooked On: Creatures of the Deep. Apparently, N-Gage in the form of an application was planned for devices based on Symbian 8.x, but then all this was transferred to Symbian 9.x.

At least one of the "Coming Soon" games for N-Gage never came out on it, but came out in SISX format. These are "Creebies". Only S60v5.x support is declared, but in fact the game starts and runs fine on S60v3.x, although it warns of incompatibility during installation.

Dance Fabulous was also released in the SISX version, but only for S60v5.x, not for S60v3.x.

The trial version of Age of Empires III can be hacked by deleting the file "!: \ Private \ 2001085b \ license.dat.ngdat". It will be possible to go through the entire campaign, just do not forget to save. Missions, unfortunately, cannot be played this way.

One day Nokia opened a section about N-Gage at http://ngage.uservoice.com/ where you could put forward and vote on different service proposals. One of them was the translation of games into Russian. And this proposal was accepted. As a result, many games published by Nokia were updated with the added Russian language, and new ones came out with it.

We got Russian in the updated version of the game:

- Bounce Boing Voyage 1.1.24 (added the ability to control the accelerometer)
- Reset Generation

>>Nokia has announced that a revamped version of Bounce Boing Voyage is the first N-Gage game to support accelerometer-based controls. Initially, it'll work on a range of N-Gage handsets: the N79, N82, N85, N95 and N95 8GB, N96 and 6210 Navigator.

Originally came out with Russian:

- Age of Empires III
- Dance Fabulous
- Dirk Dagger and the Nuclear Zeppelin
- Mega Monsters!
- Powerboat Challenge

As you can see from the lists, none of this has been cracked (Bounce and Reset Generation were only cracked in the first versions of games where there is no Russian). Age of Empires is somewhat playable after deleting one file, but this is not a full-fledged hack, you can only go through the campaign.

In Asphalt 4, at a size similar to Asphalt 3, almost half the size (4.5 MB) is an introductory video. Another 1 Mb is music in the form of several .mp3 files. In total, the game itself is only 6.4 MB, with 30 cars and 7 tracks. Obviously, the quality of textures from this is noticeably lame, in contrast to Asphalt 3, where there are much fewer cars, and the size of the game is almost the same.

It's even more interesting in Prince of Persia. The N-Gage version differs from the SISX version only in better music and soundtrack. And although the game weighs 30 MB in the installed form, in it 10 MB is a ballast in the form of a POP file, which is a RAR archive without an extension, in which a ZIP archive named POP is packed, also without an extension, in which a file with all sound accompanied by sounds.lib. In this case, the same file is in an unpacked form with the name sounds.bar and in the game itself, but this one is not used anywhere and can be deleted. From a real 21 MB of the game, the sound takes up 17.8 MB, the remaining 3.2 MB is the game itself.

Space Impact after a long time after the release, it received an update that significantly altered the multiplayer mode. There the so-called clans and the map were added, the zones of which these clans conquered.

For the N95-3, the official N-Gage installer sets the profile as for the N95-1 on the first firmware without N-Gage support, so neither the screen rotation by 270 nor the multimedia keys on the other side of the slider work with it, although in the firmware of the N95 itself -3 it appeared synchronously with the N95-1, that is, with the 20th firmware.

Another interesting fact is that in device profiles on double MM sliders, the play and stop keys are written with scancodes from the game keys A and B from the N81 / 5730XM, although in other modes they respond only to their native scancodes as expected. Moreover, I got into the hands of the N95-1 on the firmware where there was no N-Gage support yet, and all attempts to register the MM keyboard there were unsuccessful. The smartphone simply did not respond to these keys and that's it, even though they were spelled out with the correct scancodes. Likewise, an attempt to use the keys of the previous and next tracks in addition to the play and stop keys was unsuccessful. There was simply no reaction to their pressing. So, alas, you can use the remaining MM keys in N-Gage games only with the help of MagicKey. Probably, there is some kind of software layer on the double sliders, which, when it detects running N-Gage, changes the scancodes of these two MM keys. And on the N95-1 on firmware 10-11 this has not yet happened.

One: Who's Next - The sequel to the N-Gage game One. It was running on an N93 (with 3D Chips). Also featured a landscape as well as portrait mode for the game, so phones with horizontal screens.

A demo of System Rush Evolution is pre-installed on the N93. Which clearly makes good use of the 3D chip (the demo can be installed on other S60 3rd Edition phones without 3D chips but it runs unplayably slowly on them, so far only the N93 and N95 have the 3D chip the game relies on)
