Girl. VirtualBox fan. Loves kisses.

My PC

  • OS: Windows 10
  • CPU: Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-2400 @ 3.10 GHz
  • RAM: 16 GBs
  • GPU: .....I don't have one. I mean... it's Intel(HD)Graphics shit. hardly anything runs.

How does emulation fare on my PC?

Nintendo Entertainment System

I have Nestopia installed on my computer. It works perfectly.

Sega Genesis

I have BlastEm installed on my computer. It works perfectly.

Game Boy

I have mGBA installed on my computer. It works perfectly.

Super Nintendo Entertainment System

I have bsnes installed on my computer. It works perfectly.

Sega Saturn

I have kronos installed on my computer. It... won't boot any ROM.

PlayStation

I have DuckStation installed on my computer. While I can't figure out why it won't recognise most of my ROMs, what it does recognise run perfectly. Can allow resolution scaling to go to 2x, but 3x makes the games laggy.

Nintendo 64

I have tried a few.

ares

Goes ingame. Can get Super Mario 64 running at 30 FPS. Not gonna get any higher than that on any other game.

BizHawk

4 FPS in just showing the logo of Super Mario 64.

Project64

Crashes immediately upon opening the program.

RMG

I love that it actually has a GUI, but it won't boot any games. Attempting to do so makes the emulator hang, and you have to force close it through Task Manager. Attempting to go into input settings also crashes it, for some reason.

simple64

Won't even open a window when pressed.

Game Boy Colour

I have mGBA installed on my computer. It works perfectly.

Dreamcast

I have Flycast installed on my computer. No ROMs will boot.

WonderSwan

I have StoicGoose installed on my computer. When opened, I'm greeted with this error message:

WGL: OpenGL profile requested but WGL_ARB_create_context_profile is unavailable.

StoicGoose requires GPU and drivers supporting OpenGL 4.0.

StoicGoose will then crash.

WonderSwan Colour

StoicGoose is my only option in this regard.

Game Boy Advance

I have mGBA installed on my computer. It works perfectly.

PlayStation 2

I have PCSX2 installed on my computer. It surprisingly works perfectly.

GameCube

I have Dolphin installed on my computer. Can get 16 FPS in the opening of Luigi's Mansion, and 15 FPS in the menu of Super Mario Sunshine.

Xbox

I have xemu installed on my computer. Once the BIOS and everything have been connected, it'll immediately come up with the error message:

Unable to create OpenGL context. This usually means the graphics device on this system does not support OpenGL 4.0.

xemu cannot continue and will now exit.

Nintendo DS

I have melonDS installed on my computer. It works perfectly.

PlayStation Portable

I have PPSSPP installed on my computer. It works perfectly.

Xbox 360

I have Xenia installed on my computer. It crashes immediately upon opening.

PlayStation 3

I have RPCS3 installed on my computer. Games don't boot, although the emulator seems to think they do, and will count how long it's been 'running'. Only way to stop a game from 'running' is to force stop the background task in Task Manager. Not even closing RPCS3 will stop the background task.

Wii

I have Dolphin installed on my computer. I can get about 11-15 FPS in the main menu of Mario Kart Wii.

Nintendo 3DS

I have Citra installed on my computer. Attempting to boot a game will result in the error message:

Your GPU may not support OpenGL 4.3, or you do not have the latest graphics driver.

PlayStation Vita

I have Vita3K installed on my computer. Upon opening, it'll spit out this error message:

Could not create OpenGL context!

Does your GPU at least support OpenGL 4.4?

Upon closing that error message, you'll get another one:

Emulated environment initialization failed.

Vita3K will then crash.

Wii U

I have Cemu installed on my computer. When attempting to boot a game with the Vulkan API, you'll get the error message:

Error when initializing Vulkan renderer:

When attempting to boot a game with the OpenGL API, Cemu will transition into a state of permanent loading. The only way to close the emulator is to force close it with Task Manager.

PlayStation 4

I've tried 4:

fpPS4

Temmie's launcher GUI works perfectly, but I can't get into any game due to some 'AVX2' error.

GPCS4

Will open a terminal for 1 millisecond, then immediately crash.

kyty

kyty is... a weird program I can't figure out. Stuck at some weird profile-making GUI. Can't get any further than that.

Obliteration

Wants me to connect the PS4UPDATE1.PUP.dec file. I apparently must use the 'ps4-pup_decrypt' repository to make the file out of the PS4 BIOS, but I don't know how.

Nintendo Switch

Ryujinx

When using the Vulkan API, it always tells me I need to install firmware upon attempting to boot a game. I can't seem to figure this out.

When using the OpenGL API... Ryujinx crashes immediately upon attempting to boot a game.

yuzu

When using the Vulkan API, I'm greeted with this error message when attempting to boot a game:

yuzu has encountered an error while running the video core. This is usually caused by outdated GPU drivers, including integrated ones. Please see the log for more details. For more information on accessing the log, please see the following page: How to Upload the Log File.

When using the OpenGL API, I'm greeted with this error message when attempting to boot a game:

OpenGL shared contexts are not supported.

PlayStation 5

I have kyty installed on my computer. But I've already mentioned the problem with that...

Phone emulation

Android

I have BlueStacks installed on my computer. It runs perfectly using the Vulkan API. It's set to OpenGL automatically, though, which makes it rather laggy.

Y'know what's great? M64Plus FZ, an N64 emulator on Android, runs games perfectly. Same can't be said for Dolphin or Citra, though. AetherSX2 and Skyline won't even install on BlueStacks, since it only emulates Android 7.

Do general Windows games even work?

As for games, let's split them into categories.

Perfect

Basically all 2D, Ren'Py, Source, and some low-end 3D games (Baldi's Basics in Education and Learning, Everything is Garbage, LOEK, Roblox, RuneScape, Spooky's Jump Scare Mansion, Stan Lee's Verticus, etc.) all work perfectly.

Great

Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc plays well, but has weird graphical glitches that occur when 2D sprites like characters and textboxes move. The glitchiness is particularly bad in class trials. The game is fully playable, however. The other Danganronpa games probably play like this as well.

Tonight We Riot is mostly fine, although some occasional audio and visual glitches occur.

Okay

Injustice: Gods Among Us – Ultimate Edition somehow plays alright? It's kinda slow, but not that slow...

Poor

Clustertruck and Snakeybus are pretty slow. In fact, any 3D Unity game is basically too slow to play at an enjoyable speed.

Bad

Drug Dealer Simulator, Hello Neighbour, Super Totally Ultimate Dad Showdown, Walking Simulator, etc., are all extremely slow.

Minecraft: Java Edition worked okay for a while. FPS enhancers were basically necessary. Weirdly enough, Optifine made it worse. Significantly worse. Dropped it down from 15-20 FPS to 1 frame per 10 seconds. That really confusing Sodium/Lithium/Phosphor/whatever the fuck shit worked fine though. A shame it's basically impossible to find them or implement them. Minecraft was playable up until the 5th snapshot for 1.17. That one broke it. Would get this error message:

GLW error 65542: WGL: The driver does not appear to support OpenGL.

Please make sure you have up-to-date drivers (see aka.ms/mcdriver for instructions).

Recently, I seemed to have done something that's gotten all the latest versions running again. The only thing I can think of that possibly could have done this would be a Vulkan Runtime API I installed recently? Either way, it boots again now, except at a solid 1 frame per 5-10 seconds in the menu (which is actually a 3D environment!), so I'm not even gonna bother getting ingame.

Broken

Some games just won't start at all.

MultiVersus and War Thunder directly tell me that my GPU can't support them.

Programs that rely on 3D graphics, like Blender, Embers, Source Filmmaker etc., also don't work at all.
