PCSX-R[edit]

We need to do something about PCSXR. The page sings the praise of the emulator too highly. I consider it only moderately better than epsxe, but it is still a plugin and glitchy mess.

Many recent builds are broken too. At the very least we should find the latest one that works right and link to that one. --173.206.82.252 22:26, 13 April 2014 (EDT)

Oh, wow, a very old message from four years ago... Yeah, I think we all kinda agree about PCSX-R being a plugin-based mess and I see that its ongoing development is stuttering a bit. However, good news is RetroArch has got that good Beetle PSX core (still not perfect compatibility for everything); MEDNAFEN is excellent but unfortunately has got no debugging tools for ANY of its core (not good for romhacking or bugfixes). It's very strange that, despite all this time and the burgeoning field, there is not a very large number of recommended PSX emulators for desktop PC's.
To me, Avocado seems very promising and is being well made and relatively easy to use, I imagine. But it's being made solely by a Polish developer so progress will not be very fast. We see on the main page that the PCSX-R fork bundled with the PGXP graphical enhancement plugin is good. ObiKKa (talk) 03:20, 7 December 2018 (EST)

ZXE-D: Legend of Plasmalite[edit]

It should be noted that this game cannot be emulated by any emulator because it uses an external device (assemblable robots with parts) which connects to the memory card slot to show an exact replica of your robot during gameplay. No efforts have ever been made, and nobody is interested or maybe documentation/device availability is lacking.

PSXACT[edit]

Can anyone find evidence to this project still being active? The github page linked 404s and google isn't helping me.

It moved to gitlab.

Miss important historical PSX emulator![edit]

"Connectix VGS" was the first commercial emulator for PS1 and therefore deserves to be included in this list.

Done. Thanks for suggestion! WebMint (talk)

PCSX-Redux[edit]

Can anyone add PCSX-Redux (https://github.com/grumpycoders/pcsx-redux), which is another fork of PCSX?

Also, can anyone tell me why they disabled the Edit function on the whole page of PlayStation_emulators?

Duckstation now available as libretro core[edit]

Good afternoon, everyone. I noticed DuckStation added libretro support a few days back, according to their commit log on GitHub. I tried to edit this information here myself, but it seems the whole page is edit-protected. So, could someone please mark DuckStation (desktop) as libretro-compatible? Thanks. Mednafen PSX and Beetle should be split in the table[edit]

As it stands now, I believe the table is somewhat misleading to newcomers, since it doesn't make it clear that libretro's Beetle PSX core is heavily modified from the Mednafen core. This distinction is mentioned below the table, but could be made clear right away in the able itself. My proposal would be to add an additional row for Beetle PSX. pSXfin reference is broken[edit]

The footnote reference to a compatibility list for pSXfin is broken

A working link is on the page for pSXfin itself

PCSX-Reloaded (PCSXR) Is Still Active In-Development[edit]

PCSX-Reloaded (PCSXR) is still active in-development. (https://ci.appveyor.com/project/iCatButler/pcsxr/build/artifacts)

Update ares URL[edit]

Hi, could someone update the ares URL to "https://github.com/ares-emulator/ares/releases" to avoid a redirect? Thanks. BlaBlaCra (talk) 00:16, 30 October 2021 (UTC)

Done, thanks for the suggestion! - WebMint (talk) 20:30, 26 December 2021 (UTC)

WiiSXRX has Wii U support[edit]

Can't edit this page, but it says on the Github page it ha support and there's a download for it. Natsuki Marx (talk) 21:23, 26 December 2021 (UTC)

Is it desirable to have a Plugin available?[edit]

The list on plugins is positive, but the plugins are no longer being developed and I think it's a negative option nowadays.

Duckstation not active?[edit]

Why?

Stenzek decided, why i dunno honestly but 100% inactive for now! - Rdx (talk)

XEBRA: XEBRA is not actual name[edit]

I am Japanese. XEBRA is not an official software name. the text of official website says "Emyutte-shimauma (abbreviated as XEBRA)" will be released." This is a joke with pronunciation in the same Japanese! Shimauma (Zebra) and do-Shimau ("can't help doing").

Official software name in english is XEBRA. Interesting origin of the name.

PocketStation[edit]

It would be nice to have a column for PocketStation support, or at least list in the description paragraphs for each emulator that the PS is supported on. I believe a few are missing from this list.

XEBRA status[edit]

The newest release is less than a year of age at present (2022.9.8), the releases normally have a large amount of time between as it's one single person doing them, nothing on its page says anything about it being discontinued. So I recommend it's 'Active' status be changed from red to green, while waiting for signs of it being otherwise. I also recommend the same change to its 'Recommended' status, as its accuracy alone should be enough to balance what's required of the user to use it (It not being the most intuitive).

Arrangement of PCSX family[edit]

I think the latest PCSX based emulator of the PCSX codebase is PCSX-Redux. All other families should be moved as historical. What do you think of?

SCPH-2000[edit]

PCSX-Redux[edit]

Its homepage (for the link in the `name` column) is https://pcsx-redux.consoledev.net/, and it actually supports PlayStation link through network connection (for the tick in the corresponding column).

It might also be worth mentioning OpenBIOS throughout: https://github.com/grumpycoders/pcsx-redux/tree/main/src/mips/openbios - a free, truly open source bios replacement for the ps1, which works on the real hardware and emulators.

Third-party peripheral for peripherals section?[edit]

What do you guys think?

===Movie Card (Third-party)=== Similar to the Sega Saturn's Video CD Card or Philips CD-i's Digital Video Cartridge this third-party peripheral gives you the ability to play Video CDs (VCD) through your PlayStation 1. It is compatible with all types of PlayStations (PAL and NTSC). It is very user friendly as it works by just attaching the unit to the back of the PlayStation.

If you're going to quote me, actually be correct on your info.[edit]

BizHawk is given a yellow for recommendation which follows to an srcom link to The Weakest Link (https://www.speedrun.com/twl/forums/nl2de), which quotes Joester who is quoting me for the information.
BizHawk is actually more preferred cause at least for speedrunning it's more for catching those who try and pass off RTA runs as TASes. The Nymashock core is more preferred between the two, with public talks about removing the Octoshock core.
DuckStation is only recommended because it was the most requested emulator that the Crash Speedrunning Community kept getting asked about before the rules were developed when it was it was made and sent to other communities, before finally the same rules landed on the Crash Series.
However, on the Crash Team Racing boards (https://www.speedrun.com/ctr) both Mednafen and BizHawk are the recommended emulators, whereas DuckStation is banned (https://www.speedrun.com/ctr/forums/sqeu6).

Information about who developed the Nymashock core is wrong.[edit]

Unlock the page[edit]

Please unlock this page for IP editors, only two people are contributing to it currently and it's not known why it was locked in the first place.

Please add 32bit PS1's predecessor: 16bit PS0?[edit]
