Nintendo Wii (ニンテンドーウィー Nintendō Uī?) is the sixth discontinued video console produced by Nintendo and released on November 19, 2006 in North America and on December 8 of the same year in Europe. Belonging to the seventh generation of video consoles,10 it is the direct successor to the GameCube and competed with Microsoft's Xbox 360 and Sony's PlayStation 3. Nintendo claimed that the Wii is intended for a wider audience than the other two consoles.11 Since its debut, the console outperformed its competitors in sales,12 and, in December 2009, broke the record as the best-selling console in a single month in the United States.13

The most distinctive feature of the console was its wireless controller, the Wii Remote, which was used as a handheld device with which to aim, in addition to detecting movements in a three-dimensional plane. Another of its peculiarities was the WiiConnect24 service, which allowed receiving messages and updates over the Internet in standby mode. 14 Additionally, the console can be synchronized with the portable Nintendo DS, which allows the Wii to take advantage of the Nintendo touch screen. Since its launch, it has received awards for the innovation of its controller and the technology it incorporates into the game system. The latest games released for the console are Just Dance 2020, released by Ubisoft on November 5, 2019;2324 Shakedown: Hawaii (Europe exclusive) and Retro City Rampage DX+ (America exclusive), both released on November 9. July 2020.25​26​27​.
